A: Now in its 36th year, Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade is NYC’s legendary celebration that brings together dogs and their humans for an unforgettable day of costumes, community and only-in-New-York creativity.

Q: When is the 2026 Halloween Dog Parade?

A: This year’s event will take place on Saturday October 17th 2026.

Q: Where does the parade take place? 

A: The parade route is on Avenue B, along the east side of Tompkins Square Park . The parade route is subject to change- check back closer to the event for confirmed details!

Q: What time is the parade?

A: The parade is scheduled to take place mid-morning. Timing is subject to change- check back closer to the event for confirmed details!

Q: Is the event free?

A: Yes! The Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade is free for spectators and registered participants.

Q: Do I need to register my dog to participate?

A: Yes. Advance registration is required for dogs and their humans who want to participate in the parade. Registration helps us safely manage the number of participants and create the best possible experience for everyone. Registration for the parade will be available Tuesday September 22nd at 12pm ET!

Q: Can I just show up with my dog and join the parade?

A: No. Only confirmed, registered participants will be able to enter the parade route. You do not need to register if you're coming just to watch and enjoy the festivities.

Q: Can I register more than one person or dog?

A: Yes, each registration includes one dog and one accompanying human, with the option to add one additional dog and one additional human. Special circumstances are subject to prior-approval by the NYDP team.

Q: Does my dog have to wear a costume?

A: If you're entering the costume parade, come ready to show off! Costumes can be simple, elaborate, funny, homemade or completely over-the-top. Creativity is part of what has made this New York tradition so special.

Q: Are there restrictions on my costume design?

A: Costumes and props must be safe and manageable in a crowded parade environment. Carts, strollers, wagons, and small motorized elements are welcome, but should not exceed approximately 3' W × 5' L × 6' H; golf carts and similarly sized vehicles are not permitted.

Q: Can humans dress up too?

A: Absolutely—and we encourage it! Coordinated dog-and-human costumes, duos and group concepts are all part of the fun.
